For Windows

The following steps will help you get your server and clients up and running. We will walk you through the installation and basic setup steps for the FileWave Server and Client. Please note: This guide is not meant to be a replacement for either the FileWave Manual or proper training.

FileWave Server Installation:
1. Install the FileWave Server from the “FileWaveServer.MSI”
2. Once installed, the server will immediately start-up. To verify this, open your services on your server and scroll down to FileWave. If the FileWave services report anything other than “Started”, please contact FileWave support. 
Congratulations! You have successfully installed FileWave Server! 
FileWave Admin Installation: 
1. Install the FileWave Admin from the “FileWaveAdmin.MSI” 
a. The Admin can be installed on any Windows 7+ or Server 2008+ machine. 
2. Once installed, you will notice applications have been added to the FileWave directory and the start menu. 
a. FileWave Admin - The front end for your FileWave Server. 
b. Filewave Client Monitor - This tool allows you to get real-time status for a specific client. 
c. FileWave Booster Monitor - Allows you to see the status of any of your FileWave Boosters. 
d. Superprefs Editor - Easily make FileWave client preference changes to clients. 
3. Launch FileWave Admin. 
4. Place your server DNS name or IP Address into the “Address:” field. 
5. The default user name and password is: 
a. fwadmin 
b. filewave 
6. Go to the FileWave menu, then to Preferences. 
7. From the Mobile tab, enter the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) of the server into the “MDM Server Address” 
8. Click OK to close the window. 
9. To check and make sure the server is working properly, we are going to initiate a model update. The model update is how you present changes, made in FileWave Admin, to your clients. 
a. Select “Update Model” from the upper left corner of the Admin. 
b. The server model will update. 
FileWave Client Installation: 
1.On your client machine, install the “FileWave Client.MSI” (Do not install the FileWave server)
2. After accepting the EULA, the setup assistant will launch. 
a. Place the IP or DNS name for your FileWave Server in the “Server” location. 
b. Insure that the port is set to the default of 20015. 
c. Click “Save”. 
3. Your client machine is now configured and is attempting to communicate with your FileWave Server. 

FileWave Clients communicating to the FileWave server will not be able to connect until you add them to the model. We will now allow our new client to join the FileWave server.

1. Open FileWave Admin. 
2. Click on the “New Client” button in the tool bar 







a. From the dialog box, select “Checked-in Clients”. 
b. Select your new client from the list presented. 
c. Click the “Add Clients” button in the lower right. 







Once you have selected “Add Clients”, you will be taken to the Clients view in FileWave Admin. By adding a client to the server, we have made changes to the model. In order for those changes to take effect, we need to perform a model update. 





Making Changes to the Model:
Remember that you will need to update the model anytime that you want to apply changes you have made. You can update the model after a single change or multiple changes (adding multiple clients, creating groups, etc.)

Congratulations! Your FileWave environment is now up and running! From here you can continue to add clients, build and deploy Filesets!
